                                                                                   Planner



Islamorada, Village of Islands, a progressive planning environment utilizing leading growth management techniques located in the Florida Keys, is seeking an individual to fill a Planner position.

Description: Responsibilities include:

•    Provides customer assistance; responds to phone and e-mail contacts; provides planning assistance to the public regarding various land use projects and zoning activities.
•    Processes and guides developer and citizen requests through the approval process.
•    Reviews building permits; performs zoning compliance; and maintains records of letters sent.
•    Performs field inspections to gather data as part of the development review process and to verify that development projects comply with approved plans.
•    Conducts complex planning studies and review of development applications including detailed research and preparation of staff reports, maps and required notices; reviews applicant proposals; reviews and processes land development regulation amendments, re-zonings, site plans and plats.
•    Presents reports and other findings to staff, boards and the Village Council; serves as a liaison to advisory boards.
•    Supports the relationship between the Village and the public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and Village staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and Village information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Ideal candidates will have a working knowledge of the principles and practices of land use planning as well as strong communication skills and the ability to work on a variety of initiatives concurrently. The ability to work independently as well as in an overall team environment is essential.

Requirements: Master’s Degree in planning or closely related field or Bachelor’s Degree in planning or closely related field and at least one (1) year relevant experience. Demonstrated ability and experience to perform analysis and create graphics with ARC-GIS 10 preferred. AICP preferred.

Starting salary for a Planner is $46,000+ DOQ.  A benefits package including health, dental, vision, and life insurance is offered by the Village, along with an initial 12 vacation days and 12 sick days annually. The Village participates in the Florida Retirement System (FRS).

                                                        Building Services Coordinator &
                                                                Floodplain Administrator

 

Islamorada, Village of Islands, a progressive planning environment utilizing leading growth management techniques located in the Florida Keys, is seeking an individual to fill a position with Building Services Coordinator & Floodplain Administrator.

Description: Performs technical and administrative work, customer service and public contact duties to support the operation of the Building Department.   Supervises and coordinates activities related to the Village Flood Management Program and Community Rating System. Position may require use of Village vehicle in performance of duties.

Ideal candidates will have a working knowledge of the principles and practices of floodplain management. Certification preferred, but not required. Strong communication skills and the ability to work on a variety initiatives concurrently in fast-paced environment. The ability to work independently as well as in an overall team environment is essential.

Requirements: Associate’s Degree or higher preferred.  A minimum of four (4) years relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.  Secretarial and/or administrative support experience.  Working proficiency in MS Office Suite products. Strong computer skills and Notary Public certification or the ability to become certified. Experience within information management systems, (preferably within the building industry); or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Must obtain FEMA’s Floodplain Management Coordinator’s Certificate within one year
