FKEC Sea Oats Beach Night-Time Construction Work, Starting Jan. 8
Starting January 8, 2024, Florida Keys Electric Cooperative contract crews will work at night to remove pole stumps along Sea Oats Beach in Islamorada, mile marker 73.5 to 75.5. To minimize the impact on traffic, contract crews will work at night, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., for approximately three weeks. Due to the proximity of the pole stumps to the highway, northbound lane shifts and/or lane closure may be required.
Removing the pole stumps or bases will finalize the Sea Oats Beach Pole Relocation project, which involved moving the transmission system being threatened by beach erosion along the Atlantic shoreline to the other side of the US 1. The project was critical to maintaining reliable electrical service throughout the Florida Keys.
